Pedestrians and Cyclists

Pedestrian Accidents
As many as 30,000 pedestrians are injured every year in the UK as a result of road traffic accidents. If you are unfortunate to being involved in a pedestrian accident, and have suffered an injury as a result, you may be able to make a no win no fee pedestrian compensation claim.
- Pedestrians are the most vulnerable group from being seriously injured
- There is a high degree of vigilance required of motorists for looking out for pedestrians, particularly in built up areas, near parks, schools, shops, bus stops or parked vehicles
- It is recognised that pedestrians can fail to appreciate how fast a vehicle may be going, but it is the driver who must keep a lookout for pedestrians on the pavement who may be waiting to cross
- Children are particularly vulnerable pedestrians and drivers are expected to slow down and drive carefully
Cycling Accidents
In the UK each year there are many thousands of accidents involving cyclists. In the vast majority of cycling accidents result from the negligence of other road users - particularly the drivers of other motor vehicles.
- These days in light of the congestion on the roads and the fear of what damage motor vehicles are doing to the environment a lot of people are deciding to travel by pedal cycle instead of by car
- Councils in the UK are improving cycle paths and investing in cycle lanes
- Unfortunately cyclists are very vulnerable on the roads and have little protection if they are involved in cycle accidents - such as a collision (especially a collision with a motor vehicle)
- Often cyclists are not seen by the driver of the motor vehicle – even though they may be wearing high visibility clothing
Our advice
- We recommend that you keep an injury diary – a contemporaneous record of your injuries and treatment
- We always recommend that you seek professional medical advice
- Our aim is to consider rehabilitation first
- In many cases we can help arrange physiotherapy or other private rehabilitation at no cost to you
- Due to the unpredictable nature of recovery from these type of injuries, we consider that it is important, for you to be confident in the prognosis for recovery
- We always arrange for you to be examined by a specialist independent medical expert who has many years of experience dealing with these type of claims
- Some insurers may be quick to contact claimants directly to make an early offer to settle whiplash claims, but make sure you insist on getting independent legal advice before agreeing to any compensation settlement
