Insured Drivers Face Fines and Crushed Cars
A glitch in the Motor Insurance Database (MID) has led to innocent motorists having their vehicles seized or even crushed.
Apparently, up to 1.5 million policyholders can appear to be uninsured because of insurance companies failing to update the MID database prompty. Insurers are required to update the system within 7 days or face a fine of up to £5000 but many are taking a lot longer.
According to Which magazine, one lady from Wales who was 20 weeks pregnant had he car seized by the police who left her by the roadside for her mother to pick her up. She was fined £200 and had 6 points on her licence. Eventually both were withdrawn after futrther investigations confirmed that she had been insured by the insurers had not updated the MID.
