Shannon double does the trick - TRAFFORD 2 v 0 Radcliffe Borough
Danny Shannon struck two stunning second half goals to secure the points for Trafford in an entertaining game at Shawe View on Tuesday night.
In a lively start, the visitors were just on top with winger Osebi Abadaki causing problems with his pace and skill. However, it was Trafford who created the best chance in the opening period when big striker Tom Bentham broke clear in the inside left channel but sliced his shot into the side-netting with just Nick Culkin to beat.
Chances were at a premium for the remainder of the first half with defences dominating and neither goalkeeper troubled, although the game was far from dull with both sides fully committed.
In the 50th minute Radcliffe striker Mark Connor shot across the face of the Trafford goal from a great position but within a minute the hosts surged ahead when Danny Shannon cut in from the right and blasted his drive inside the near post.
Six minutes later, Shannon struck again with another goal out of nothing, collecting the ball with his back to goal, swivelling neatly and cracking a superb shot inside the far post from 20 yards.
Trafford were now well on top and on the hour Joe Shaw forced his way to the goal-line and pulled the ball back to Kamahl Whight whose first time effort was pushed behind by Culkin. Whight then became the provider when he crossed hard and low to the back post only to see Simon Gallanders blast well over from close range.
In the 84th minute Danny Shannon had a great chance to complete his hat-trick but fired over when in acres of space on the left and in the dying minutes Joe Shaw curled a shot inches wide as Trafford finished strongly.
