Tom Reid's 100th Game In Yorkshire Away Win - Wakefield 0 v 3 TRAFFORD
Trafford produced a fine all-round performance to convincingly defeat Wakefield in their Evo-Stik League Division One North clash on Saturday.
The Yorkshiremen relied throughout on the long throws of Marc Roberts and the height of centre forward Tom Denton and the tactic almost paid dividends after just four minutes when the giant striker glanced a header just wide.
In the 12th minute Trafford missed a golden opportunity to take the lead when a lightning fast break down the right ended with Kyle Harrop crossing to the back post and Andy Lundy crashing in a drive that was brilliantly tipped over by Ashley Timms. From the resultant corner Harrop headed onto the roof of the net.
Trafford were looking the more accomplished side and deservedly went ahead in the 24th minute when another slick move down the right ended with Harrop pulling the ball across the face of the home goal for Lundy to tap in from six yards.
Wakefield then enjoyed a spell of pressure with Denton heading straight at Read, Adam Jones screwing his shot well wide and Delroy Ferguson firing past the post from close range.
But it was Trafford who finished the first half on top with effervescent striker Scott Barlow twice going close to extending their lead.
The visitors maintained a stranglehold on the game in the opening minutes of the second period and in the 51st minute the impressive Timms pushed an Andy Lundy drive around the post. Lundy then squandered another chance when his shot lacked power from 12 yards and Chris Lawton headed a Paul Ashton free kick just over in the 65th minute.
Trafford were rewarded for their superiority with a second goal in the 72nd minute when left back Paul Ashton capped a fine performance with a brilliant inswing free kick into the opposite top corner from 30 yards.
Scott Barlow then fired into the side-netting and substitute Tommy Turner sliced through the home defence but clipped the ball over the bar with just Timms to beat.
The scoring was completed deep into injury time when Turner played a deft pass into the path of Callum Byrne and the tricky left winger clinically curled his low shot past the onrushing Timms and into the bottom corner.
The Trafford management team were delighted with this emphatic victory and will be hoping to build on this performance when they entertain Prescot Cables at Shawe View on Tuesday night, kick off 7-45 p.m.
