TRAFFORD REACH MIC PREMiER CUP FiNAL

by  Dave Murray

Garry Vaughan in his first season as Manager at this level has taken Trafford to their first Manchester County FA Premier Cup Final in years. After beating fellow First Division North rivals Radcliffe Borough 2 - I in the semi-final, Trafford now meet Blue Square Conference side Droylsden in the final to be played at Hyde United's ground on Tuesday 20th April.

This last month has been a real mixed bag for Trafford winning three games, losing four & two games drawn keeping us in mid-table in the Unibond League First Division North.

The month started with a 2-0 home win against Woodley Sports, then that was followed by a 2-0 home defeat against in-form Leigh Genesis who looked one of the best sides we'd met so far this season.

The following Saturday 13th March Trafford travelled up to North Yorkshire & in a closely fought game narrowly lost 3-2 against Harrogate Railway Athletic.

Next came another in-form side as Mossley were on a crest of the waves with five successive wins, but a last minute free kick by Shelton Payne gave Trafford a vital point as they fought back from two goals down to draw 3-3.

It was back up North next on Saturday 20th March to First Division North leaders & title favourites Lancaster City & return with a close 2-1 defeat.

The following Thursday as reported above Trafford in a nail biting Manchester Premier Cup Semi-final against Radcliffe Borough made their way into the final winning 2-1 at Shawe View. Forty eight hours later in front of an attendance of over five hundred Trafford looked leg weary after their semi-final success losing 3-0 at home to another of the title favourites FC Halifax Town. Good Friday saw Vaughanie's lads back on form as they made the short journey to Woodley Sports & on their artificial pitch went 3-0 up after 66 minutes, then Woodley replied immediately with two goals in two minutes leaving a very nervous twenty minutes but Trafford played their way through to win 3-2. During the game Trafford's Simon Gallanders was taken to hospital with a broken leg & the following day had an operation to fit a metal plate to his leg, we all wish Gallers a speedy recovery. Easter Monday saw Radcliffe Borough retum to Shawe View for the league game & share the points in a 1-1 draw.

The date of the forthcoming Charity Match in aid of the Royal Manchester Children's Hospital Charity between The Coronation Street All Stars & the Trafford FC Legends/Clearlaw Solicitors has been provisionally changed to Saturday 8th May kick off 12 noon.

The reason for the change of date is six of the Coronation Street team are at a photo call on May Bank Holiday Monday. The All Stars team will be soap stars from Corrie, Hollyoaks, Emmerdale, Shameless & the Royle Family.

After the game our Main Sponsors CLEARLAW Solicitors will make the draw in the clubhouse for their fantastic World Cup holiday for two in South Africa.

Trafford's Legends/Clearlaw side will consist of former Trafford players to celebrate the clubs 20th Anniversary Season & members of the Clearlaw staff. More details will be issued as soon as possible
